About Us
2947 “39 Service Batallion” Army Cadets has been serving the Richmond community since 1976.
Our Mission
To prepare the next generation of leaders, and serve the community by providing youth with leadership opportunities and experience that may not be easily accessible to most.
History of 2947 Army Cadets
The Corps was raised through the efforts of the then Commanding Officer of 12 Svc Bn, LCol Larry Watkins OMM CD. The creation of the Corps coincided with the move of the Battalion from South Jericho to Sea Island and therefore is truly "a child of the Fraser". It was felt that the sponsorship of the Cadet Corps would not only benefit the youth of Richmond, but also bring the Battalion closer to the community and its new home, the city of Richmond.
Over the past forty-three years, the corps has been very successful and this has been reflected through its many collective and individual awards. Consistently, our cadets win multiple top in platoon and top in course awards at summer training. Our senior cadets are regularly sought after to serve as staff cadets and selected to attend exchanges and prestigious advanced training opportunities. 2947 RCACC continues to foster and continue to build our identity through our affiliation with the amalgamated 39 Service Battalion and RCEME. The future of the corps is looking bright thanks to the efforts of the unit’s cadets and the immense support we receive from our affiliated unit and Support Committee.
